Bilateral collaboration agreement between the Bird Migration Research Station and the Animal Demography Unit for 2016-2026

Project: Building an Early Warning System for Biodiversity in the Face of Climate Change

within the South African National Research Foundation and the Polish National Centre for Research and Development’s  Science and Technology Research Collaboration programme

The Bird Migration Research Station started to collaborate with the Animal Demography Unit in 2005 and extended the links in 2013. This collaboration includes joint research, publishing research articles co-authored by both teams, co-supervised PhD theses, reciprocal study visits and training courses in Poland and South Africa, joint research expeditions in South Africa, and organising conferences and seminars together. In 2016 the Bird Migration Research Station and the Animal Demography Unit signed an official partnership. Both partners were awarded funding by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR, Poland) and the National Research Foundation (NRF, South Africa) for a joint research project in 2016-2018. This project is creating a platform and methodology to monitor the effects of global climate change on biodiversity in different continents using birds as bioindicators of change.
